The Alliance believes that every reunion group should have a web site. If you have one, no matter how small it is, people can find you on the Internet. If you don't have one, you are invisible to people who might be trying to find you.

Creating and hosting a web site is NOT expensive or difficult. Many members have been doing it for years. But if you don't have one, the Alliance will create and host one for you at nominal cost.

We will purchase one or more web addresses (URL's) on your behalf, create a small but attractive web site, and host it on the same server that hosts our own site. The cost to you will be $20 for one year's use of each URL, plus $20 for up to an hour's work in creating the site. A typical site would look something like this sample web site.

Some actual sites we've created are www.ussbache.org, www.ussfairview.org, and www.alwaysbransontours.com.

You might want to purchase two URLs: a main one with the .org extension (intended for nonprofits like reunion groups), and a second one with the .com extension (for users who type ".com" by mistake).

Here's the member price list for our sites:

MINIMUM REQUIRED

$20.00 for one year's registration for one URL, including Domain Privacy (see below)

$20.00 for web site creation and hosting

$40.00 TOTAL

Domain privacy is a safety feature that conceals the contact information for the owner of the site, and protects you from spam, unwanted solicitations, etc. by the many people who mine this public information for contacts. It costs about $10 per year.

AVAILABLE OPTIONS

$20.00 for an additional URL with Domain Privacy

$20.00 hourly fee for additional web site development (after your site is up and running)

Maintenance and Development of Your Site

We can continue to host your site as long as you remain a member of the Alliance. We will bill you every year for the renewal of your URL(s), typically about $20 each, plus $20 for our work in hosting and maintaining the site.

Until your site is set up as you want it, we will make a reasonable number of changes at no charge. After that, we can make changes for $20 per hour, with a miniumum charge of one hour. We have limited time to devote to this work, so please keep your requests to a minimum.

We hope that you will eventually take over the maintenance of your site. This basically requires you to learn how to maintain your site, then to take over ownership of your URL(s) and to subscribe to a commercial hosting service. There is not a lot of knowledge, work or expense involved.

If you have the skills to put together a simple newsletter, you have the skills to create and maintain a web site.

There are many companies that offer web site hosting for $5-$10 a month, and most of them provide the tools to create and maintain a simple web site. Googling 'simple websites', 'simple website builder', and similar terms will turn up quite a number of them. The Alliance doesn't have any particular recommendations for one or another of these companies.

HOW TO PROCEED

Join the Alliance

Gather the information you want to display on your web site. This can include photographs, information about your group, copies of newsletters, etc. You don't have to skimp on what you include, but bear in mind that this is a simple, low cost web site. Photos should be in .JPG format. Newsletters and similar files should be in .PDF format. Other materials should be in text or Microsoft Word format.
